SUN RA BOOK
The article at the top is a review that was published in Straight No Chaser magazine back in 1997.
It's for the book called "Space Is The Place - The Life & Times Of Sun Ra" written by John F Szwed.
Under it is my copy of the book - the front and back cover on display.
Although Sun Ra's music is still very influential with today's underground musicians, not all of his material is suitable for the dancefloor, however, the odd track does make it into a DJ's live set and the SNC chart above shows that the Sun Ra track "Space Is The Place" was being played by Gilles Peterson at Dingwalls in 1993.
Needless to say, I have a few Sun Ra albums at home to choose from so plucking one out at random to accompany the feature, the LP cover here is the "Out There A Minute" album which was released in 1989 on Blast First.
