COLD CHILLIN STUFF - 1988
The top item is a full page ad that appeared in Soul Underground magazine back in March 1988.
It's for a gig at the Academy in Brixton, London, and featured acts that were on the New York hip hop label, Cold Chillin. The line up included Roxanne Shante, Biz Markie, MC Shan and Big Daddy Kane. UK's, Tim Westwood was the DJ.
Under the ad, from the same issue of the magazine, is a chart featuring the top 20 hip hop records that were on the go at the time, compiled by Groove Records & City Sounds shops in London, and in amongst all the classic 12's is one solitary album, namely Biz Markie's "Goin' Off".
So because it was a Cold Chillin release, I have accompanied the items with my vinyl copy of the LP.

WORLD CIRCUIT AD
The ad at the top was published in Take Cover magazine, summer 1990, and featured 2 albums released on World Circuit.
The first is a compilation of various Colombian acts called "Cumbia Cumbia", and the second is an album by Senegalese act, Orchestra Baobab, and is called "Pirates Choice".
Both records were actually released in 1989 and the two LP covers above are from my collection at home.

ELECTRO CHART - 1985
The "Electro Top 40" chart above was published in The Street Scene magazine in November 1985 and is a good reminder of some of the sounds that were doing the biz on the dancefloor back then.
From it, I have chosen the record at the #9 position to go with the item, Roxanne Shante's "Bite This", which was produced by Marley Marl and came out on 10 Records - this 7 inch vinyl copy here plucked out from my shelves at home.

LUV 'N' HAIGHT STUFF
The top 2 items are an overview of San Fransisco record label, Luv 'N' Haight, which appeared in Birmingham Vibe magazine back in 1996.
It contains the Luv 'N' Haight discography as well as the lowdown on its 2 offspring, Ubiquity and CuBop.
I have quite a few of the records that crop up on the overview but decided to just pluck 1 out as an example to accompany the piece.
I opted for the Luv 'N' Haight compilation "Deja Vu", a very nice set of retro funk & jazz grooves.
The review of the album was published in a June 1992 issue of Touch magazine.
The chart that has Deja Vu at top position comes from a spring '92 issue of Straight No Chaser magazine, with UFO's Raphael being the list compiler as well as the DJ throwing down the vinyl at the Jazz Cave in Tokyo.
Finally, there is the LP itself from my shelves of vinyl at home.
