BLUES & SOUL MAGAZINE
Blues & Soul is the longest running of the music magazines I indulged in, a fortnightly publication that's been on the go since the mid 1960's to present.
It's main emphasis was soul, incorporating blues, jazz and R&B, but of course as black music styles developed over the decades, B&S managed to reflect those changes along the way, so introduced pages devoted to funk, house, rap and so on, and as you can see on the cover on display here, by 1991, hip hop had become quite a significant part of their content.
The other item I have below the cover image comes from a 1988 issue and captures what the house music scene was like in UK at that time with a feature about the album "North" (referring to the north of England).
One of the tracks on it, namely - A Guy Called Gerald "Voodoo Ray" - was also making itself known in the B&S house/acid house chart, sizzling away amongst all the hottest dancefloor tracks from the States.
I've plucked out my copy of the album (a double vinyl job) to go with it.
